I've had a 100 foot span of aluminum service drop wire (#2 gauge I think) being blown around
by the wind for over ten years with no problem. Someone posted the following which I don't
quite understand:
> The 000 gauge aluminum stranded service drop wire, as a single conductor,
> may not be UV rated for use in the sunlight and weather.
In their intended use they are exposed to UV every day! Whether in the original triplex form
or as a single conductor shouldn't have any bearing to environmental concerns. Maybe it
was the underground service wire they where thinking of. To me a "drop" is above ground.
