I just about forgotten how it feels to go without a nights sleep, but Im remembering now...funny how it easier to deal with and appears directly related to going from Brownish to White hair color.
We had remote control of our home receivers up in Sarah Palin Land, near Wasilla Alaska, and had instructed everything to be powered down in a 5 mile radii :-)) I dont think that quite happened but it was quite quiet. I wasn't quite sure how prop would be given it was only dimly dark but the first SAQ transmission gave pretty good results over the Polar path and though the QRN more than strength was an issue we copied the transmission quite well, though I got a bit lost on the section of the message when they changed callsigns...something like a 459 or so.
The 1200 UTC transmission was poorer and though I could read the CW and knew what was coming I didnt get more than 80%, still its pretty good for an Alaskan summer in my view. Here in OK it was the other way round - I could "see" SAQ only during tuning very weakly but not chance of reception at 0900 UTC, but appeared better at 1200 UTC, but again now CW copy at all - large amount of Qrn here and from what I gather I wasnt alone. Luckily though there was QRN in AK it didnt appear too local -large storms in the continental part of Alaska around Fairbanks and just to the South can create a load of noise in the summer. I wasnt the only blearly eyed monster as the event here was filmed in the OK "radio room" for Japanese TV NRK I think.
