The E4-B planes that were put into service during the 70s had had 
massive tunning units for the trailing wire VLF antenna.  I got a chance 
to see the comm gear on one of these planes at Andrew AFB.  For about 6 
years I operated one of the UHF GEPs (ground entry points) that provided 
circuits to the planes which was relayed to submarines.
