[Lowfer] Reminder to all- trim attachments to less than 50KB in size

Hi all!

I just want to remind everyone that QTH.NET usually doesn't allow
attachments in the remailer groups but they have been enabled in the
LOWFER group for SMALL attachments that are less than 50KB in size. 50KB
is the maximum message size allowed and you should make the files
smaller than 50KB to allow for your text message and the email overhead.

I know that the attached screen caps are useful to the group and are
usually a bit time sensitive. But any message more than 50KB is routed
to me for review and action. I usually check these rejects no more than
once per day which destroys any time value in the message. Some times I
don't even check that often or I may miss a too-large message mixed in
with the spam that must be deleted. When I do see the bounced message, I
either delete it if it has been delayed long or reject it back to the
originator to trim the message size.

In most cases, I would expect the program you use to capture the image
is also capable of converting it to JPG format. If it isn't, you can
always use a program like Microsoft Paint to do it for you. The key is
to crop the image to size (possibly reducing the number of colors as
well) and then use the JPG conversion to compress the file to a target
size around 40KB. The final image should still be quite useable.

The image conversion program should not cost anything. If you don't have
one already, you can look for the Microsoft Paint program on the
microsoft.com web site as a graphics tool. You can also do a Google
search for "graphics conversion jpg freeware" and choose one or more of
the 288,000 hits as the free program of your dreams..... Or use one of
the online (web page) conversion services in the search results.

Good luck with your attachments.
