Hey everyone: I lowered the antenna this morning to remove the torn
foil tape around the top hat perimeter. I replaced it with 3 aluminum
wires, so these won't tear in the wind... hi - hi : Now I just have
to wait for some help to get it back up into the air, and see how it
affected the tuning...... Man, I am still super curious about running
some angled wires from the outer tip of the top hat, down to the
vertical mast about 7 feet down. This would make it look like the
" KITE " style of antenna, But I have no idea what that will do to
the characteristics of the antenna. I have found out that it is
performing well, and I certainly don't won't to mess that up.
The angled wires I think would become part of the vertical section
of the antenna mast, But the big question I don't know the answer to,
is will adding say, 4 wires angleing downward, and connecting to the
mast about 7 feet below " ADD " to the antenna capacitance referenced
to earth, and result in needing less Inductance to resonate it ???
I'm not sure that the angled wire might not at least partially shield
the top hat from earth. The angled wires connected to the vertical
portion of the antenna will see more earth beneath than the straight
up vertical section does, and if my thinking is correct, should add
some capacitance to the top of the antenna
