Yes, the G5 is only available at some stores.  It's a discontinued item.  I 
found only one out of the three stores within 40 miles of my QTH.

The G3 is a more modern product with synchronous AM detection, selectable 
sideband reception, etc.  But as I told the clerk at the store where I 
bought mine, I'll be using it out in the field...literally.  If I'm going to 
risk dropping a radio in the mud, I'd rather it be the $40 unit than the 
$150 one. :)
