I was thinking the same thing when I seen those 30m guys are running the 
  5hz FSK signal. I am going to set mine tighter if the hardware lets 
me. 5hz is too wide to cram even a dozen stations in a 100hz window.

I totally agree 500mw is way too much for a 30m beacon. Some are running 
way less. The FDIM beacon kits are designed for 100mw max. They are 
adjustable for lower than that.
