On Tues. night, I finished repairs to the transmit portion of the
YAESU FT757GX-II...When the radio was given to me, it was in bad
disrepair. After replacing defective parts, and re-alignment; the
receive is typical Yaesu of its era... nice to listen to. it does
have some drift being a 20 plus year old radio, but very minimal
for its age. I was surprised, and very pleased when I got the
transmit going... The low level RF output is stronger than I
anticipated. I just connected the output directly to the 50 Ohm
LPF, and ran it directly into the matching coil, and was getting
65 Milliamps of RF current with saturated ground, so when the
ground dries; that would be closer to 80 to 85 Milliamps...
I haven't connected it to the 1 watt PA yet, but I'm guessing that
this will be " way more " than enough drive... I did run a few
digital signals thru it last night, and listened on the main rig.
I could tell when I was overdriving the audio input, and when it
was clean... of course, when I finish rigging up the PA to the
radio, I'll set everything with the scope. For the time being;
I'll park on the frequency of 185,600.3 KHz, that's as close as my
frequency counter would show. As my parting comment for this post;
I have never tried an endeavour like this yet on 1750 meters, so;
IF, anyone has any advice, or suggestions that you feel would be
helpful to me in regards to; what, or how to connect, or not to
connect - radio to the PA, etc; I am open, and appreciative to all
advice. Thanks alot, and Merry Christmas to everyone; 73 for now:
