Hi all:
My second attempt at WSPR on 1750 meters was a little better than
the first one. Armed with more knowledge on the PA I was using,
I crudely threw a circuit together on the breadboard and managed
a steady 1/2 watt output into the antenna. I use this figure
based on 135 MilliAmps of RF Current, and approximately 30 Ohms
of antenna Impedance. My QRSS beacon which I know to be working at
peak performance runs 185 MilliAmps of RF Current. The transverter
is running in Linear mode so probably won't get up to that mark
and stay at 1 watt DC Input power.
The WSPR beacon ran all night with no problems, ( at least it was
still transmitting when I got out of bed ). Laurence - KL1X in OK.
looked for the signal, and told me that he saw what appeared to be
a timed transmission around 185.500 KHz. That is " about " where
the transmission will be. The 10 meter mobile rig drifts around
+/- 2 cycles so it could be on 185.498, or 185.502, while shooting
for 185.000 KHz. Unless something changes; I plan to have the
beacon running at night, either breadboarded, or with the PA mounted
on the transverter board as I can work out the bugs along the way.
According to the WX guess'ers, the next few nights should be storm
free ( maybe ), but that dosen't mean that propagation will be good.
I will certainly appreciate anyones time and effort to try to decode,
or " SEE " on a waterfall display, the WSPR signal.
Basic info: set receiver to 184.000 KHz on Upper Sideband. The signal
on the WSPR waterfall will be very close to the middle of the window.
A very good sign that you are actually seeing my signal will be the
" slight " up and down drift of the signal on the waterfall display.
73 to everyone :::
