Hey all:
Well I thought I would try re-do'ing my Variometer, and boy
is it out of whack now !! Mistake #1 ( I knew better, but did
it anyway ), I made too many changes to the setup at one time.
So I don't know which one killed my output. All together I;
drilled holes in the vari-coil coffee can, and the paint bucket.
I took some windings off the vari-coil ( had almost 1 mH on it )
I figured there would be more loss in the smaller coil form, so
I wound it to around 580 uH. Then I moved the fixed coil from the
top of the paint bucket down to the bottom, thinking that the
longer windings would be less loss than the shorter windings.
( The paint bucket is tapered ). All the windings now go over
the newly drilled holes.
My one big area of concern is moving the fixed coil from the
top, down to the bottom, with regards to the position of the
vari-coil inside the bucket. With the fixed coil at the top, the
vari-coil was centered inside the fixed coil windings, however;
when I moved the fixed coil to the bottom of the bucket, now the
vari-coil is situated where the bottom winding is right at the
top of the fixed coil winding. This may be where my huge drop in
power came from, I'm just not sure, SO; I would ask for any help
on that issue.
" Does the vari-coil need to be inside the fixed coil windings ?? "
" Would it be best to tune the transmitter side of the coil,
or the antenna side ?? "
My output dropped to 1/3rd after re-do'ing the variometer, And
right after ant. mods, getting the best output I've ever had !!
Kinda made me sick yuh know ??
73 guys, hope your weekend is a good one.
