Hi Andy, Lowfers,

Way to go on your antenna upgrades.  There is a certain
satisfaction in achieving an improvement that makes the
effort worthwhile.

As to drilling holes in the coil forms for the variometer,
it does indeed make a difference.  The closer you can
come to an air-wound inductor the better.  My other
hobby is building DX xtal sets and I've had success
with my low loss coils wound basket-weave style
versus conventional coil forms.

one inch diameter holes drilled in the HDPE form.
