>From what I recall, the FCC didn't want a bunch of experimenters tossing a
bunch of steady carriers out there and gumming things up without there being
some sort of uniqueness to the signal identifying it as intentional. From
what I recall, this is why we voluntarily use callsigns, even though they
are not required, use unique modulation methods, square wave, WM, sawtooth
et cetera, ANYTHING to make the signal appear unique, not just to ourselves,
but I really do recall reading it was required- somewhere. I swear there
was mention of it on this or the Part 15 list within the past couple of
weeks. I was talking with my wife, she used to test for FCC, CE and so
forth in the 80-90's and she recalls such a requirement in what we think is
Part 15, but she can't recall the details either. I've gone over Part 15
again and again, I didn't see anything familiar, I also checked Part 95 out
of desperation. I THOUGHT it may have had something to do with MedFER
operation or similar experimental operation, but couldn't find anything
relevant to that section of spectrum.

VERY odd.

Oh agreed, absolutely - just trying to think of where I had seen language
like Kurt remembered. Definitely would not apply to pt 15.
