Hey all:
I spent some time at the radio today, experimenting with the
trial and error method of building the USB filter. I am glad
to report that to my surprise, I have been able to put together
a hi-pass / lo-pass filter combination that is performing
great in the ant. line. I used my lowfer ant. with variometer
as a noise source because it is very sharp, and narrow band.
I used whatever Inductors on hand, and swapped caps until I
got the desired results. The filter is passing about 5KHz of
noise, 2.5 KHz up, and 2.5 KHz down, with the peak from about
800 Hz up to 1700 Hz which should work great for the digital
modes. I wasn't expecting to see this, but when switching from
USB to LSB there is about a 15dB drop in signal level shown
on the S-Meter *** I think I can make this thing happen ***
On to the real project. I need to construct the Osc. audio amp,
and DSB mixer, and use that signal to build the real USB filter.
I know now that I can do it, and should be able to attenuate
the LSB signal pretty good. Then I'll need to work on the
amplification stages to shape the audio, and drive the PA.
Just for the reading, I'll post my progress as I go. Have to
work it around everything else to be done,(yardwork & Honey-do's)
hope everyone has a great weekend, 73 for now :::
