I am still here. And actually I'd say it's okay with me if you have strong
held beliefs. I'd rather not see feeling hurt or comments taken personally,
but the strong feelings some have expressed are what will keep LF
experimentation alive.
And there are a lot of people I admire and know I can learn from here. Andy,
XR was the first Part 15 beacon I copied (and the QSL card is proudly
displayed). I've got copies of Bill's papers on loop antennas printed and in
my binder of "precious" LF material that gets studied regularly these days.
(Right along with the original LEK transmitter design and a copy of the LF
portion of the RSGB handbook.) And on the workbench is a transmitter that's
pretty close to Bill's refinements of the LEK transmitter. (Although I have
to admit it does have a low-pass filter because I'll probably get a vertical
strung up first.)
And I've thought seriously about going after a Part 5 license before and
Warren has convinced me that it's not too onerous to go ahead and apply and
has given me some good food for though on the application process. I like a
challenge--I like to build things and I usually operate QRP on HF. But having
the extra leaway a Part 5 license would give me would be nice.
So while voices may be raised a bit, I'd say that overall many of the members
of this list have poured sweat, heart, and soul into their LF work and blazed
trails (although maybe not all the same trail) for others to follow. Bottom
line is they've "earned" the right to voice their opinions and there's a lot
that can be learned by anyone wise enough to listen. And I'm a dang good
listener. :-)
And as my granddad would have told us to keep in mind, "Just because you don't
agree with a man, that don't mean you can't learn something from him..."
