Hi Peter,
I received it built from the factory. It will work with any voice rig on
any band, Lowfer, Experimental, Amateur, Pirate, hacker, etc...hi
hi...Some users have used them on 145mc FM. Haven't heard of anyone
using them on AM but it certainly would work. It modulates the
transmitter with the proper audio tones and runs the PTT line. Then on
receive, it listens to the receiver's audio and decodes on a multi line
LCD screen which is so easy to read. It can run on 2x 9v battery's or a
14v power supply (walwart). It was originally intended for the portable
QRP HF crowd but has since gotten popular with the VHF/UHF FM crowd and
now I am introducing it to the 600 meter Experimental band. What it does
is takes the computer away from the setup to run PSK-31 and other
digital modes. All you need is the rig and this modem. A regular PS-2
keyboard plugs into the modem for controlling it and typing in what you
want to say...hi hi...The modem can be powered by the radio if the radio
has a data port with 14v output.
Today I am to receive new software for it to allow beacon operations.
That will be neat as I can then run a PSK-31 beacon while I do other
things around the house. Future software will have RTTY, CW and some
other modes. Fun stuff!!!
