--I've found that with moderate and distant lightning activity that turning Off the rx agc allows Argo to plot along using its agc activated. But I'm spooked on lightning since having diodes blown in the rx 2 yrs ago and a large repair cexpense.  And per chance I got to play junior "Ben Franklin" last summer when on seeing approaching storm clouds, I decided to disconnect the twinlead from a high 40M ant! Yep, got zapped. Post hast, I left. I know it's dumb but there I was -- Nuts!
