Paul, others,
By way of example on other applications, I found this info while searching for that little gadget in Jay's getup, the VTL5C4 (V res.).
I came across an article from Mark Connelly (of NRC fame) on Remote Terminated antennas. This work is oriented to BCB DXing, but equally applicable to 600M, maybe more so considering lower tx power.

Back to Jay's, "pendant," well that's what comes to mind from the diagram. It wasn't until John and Alan spoke to a "wave and terminated antennas" that I wondered about my comprehension of Jay's provided diagram, I saw no termination of the usual kind (Foot Notes?). But I didn't didn't understand the VTL device. Yes it appeared variable, but what? So now I get it. For those still wondering the above ref. should go a long way.
Overall, this should Not imply it's the only or even a complete work on "wave" antennas. It will launch one into thinking, though.

Does the k9ay loop have to be erected in a verticle plane.
How would it function as a sloping configuration?
I have no trees in my back yard. Only my beacon tower and my tribander on
a 40 ft tower. I could get E/W
orientation from the ham tower. That tower is 160ft from the beacon
antenna.
Any Ideas?
