The lightning map at http://thunderstorm.vaisala.com/explorer.html
looked rather calm across the country last night, but one exception was
right on top of Chicago. By 0700Z things had quieted down enough in NE
IL for monitoring LF NDBs. GLE on 330 kHz from Texas was found coming in
well (and miskeying) so the radio was tuned to 189.55 kHz USB to look
for WEB with a 400 Hz tone and ARGO QRSS-30, slow. It came through well
until 1030Z, when it abruptly disappeared. That was similar to XR the
night before. Local sunrise is 1059Z but up in the ionosphere it occurs
earlier.
