The -3 guideline goes out the window with long runs, as all of those 
monkeys hammering on all of those typewriters can force the program to 
home in on utter garbage. I generally stick with the original default of 
16 lines. With the first three "quickie" lines added, that totals 27 
minutes, 12 seconds of recording time. This seems to be a reasonable 
compromise, but I have gotten many reports on XES and XGR/3 that did not 
decode until later, so your mileage may vary...
