Andy, 512 is a Marine channel for traffic handling after calling
on 500 kHz. This is probably the reason it is not allocated for NDB use.

This frequency, although not populated as it once was, is used for occasional
ship-to-ship communications. In this respect, there is a ship close to you
on the Lower Ohio River (USS LST325 - NWVC) that will be using it next week
and you will no doubt hear these signals very clear.

Beaconing might disrupt communications, considering your close proximity. If
you are permitted to be there you might keep an ear on it to avoid
interference.

This Marine channel is typically used a few days every 5 or 6 weeks from this
location. In addition, there may be other activity nearer the U. S. coasts
that you may not hear.

Thanks for posting your information.
