Well here's a "listener report" but to your stated quandary  <g>

Reading this I'm sensing that you are teetering on an edge, "Should I / Sould I Not?"

So, let's see...
1) You have the 'lil "square" unit and it emits... ahem, something.
2) In MCW and with an antenna you could go about with an AM radio checking on signal.
3) It's also a source for antenna testing...
4) ... while building a slightly more involved x-tal controlled exciter.

Plans for above should be found (?) about and would likely contain a divide-down IC.
