Much as it pains me to agree with Mal...my vertical Marconi transmitting
antenna beat out the large scale K9AY on the three contacts I had with
GI4DPE on 500 kHz. It also works as well as, or better, on long haul
stateside 500 kHz contacts. Of course this was under low static conditions
so the front to back of the K9AY wasn't of any advantage.
I haven't conducted similar tests on 136 kHz. In the past the large scale
K9AY outperformed the other receive antennas (10' 14 turn Octoloop, large
shielded loops, etc) so I normally used it by default. Perhaps a comparison
between the K9AY and Marconi is in order on that band as well.
