Thank you for the excellent ideas as a start to run some receiving
tests! I am pretty much a QRPer on the HF bands but have always had fun
following anything to do with extreme radio! Wished there was a desert
nearby Seattle to run hundreds of feet of wire. For Field Day 2005, the
BEARS radio club located at Ravens Roost, WA which is at about 5,000
feet elevation, somewhat west of Mt. Rainier. We laid a 250 foot long,
20 degree horizontal " V " in the small trees down a moderate slope to
the East. We had an easy time working many stations on the east coast.
What is memorable is that many of the stations from Maine to North
Carolina were about the same signal strength much of the time. Would
like to do it again with 600 foot long lengths!

Hi ,
I posted this on the LWCA message board. I received a message
forwarded by Steve Ratzlaff from an NDB list member in Sweden reporting
that SAQ 17.2 KHz will run a test transmission on Wednesday, Feb 6 at
10:00 UTC. Should be interesting to listen for. 73 Todd WD4NGG - Here
is the message :
Hi all,
SAQ is the ID of a vintage pre-tube VLF-transmitter at Grimeton, Sweden
which is run and maintained by UNESCO as cultural world heritage.
Beside the two official annual trans-missions in July and Christmas
Eve, test transmissions are made to verify that the alternator and
antenna system is in good working condition. I have been informed by an
engineer of SAQ that a test transmission will take place on Wednesday,
Febr. 6, 2008 at 10:00 utc, (11:00 local
time) on 17.2 kHz. The duration inclusive start-up will be approx. 1
hour.
