glfer can be set to have better displayed resolution than the default by
adjusting the program options. So you are not limited by what you see on
the default startup screen.

I've had very little trouble using Wine with most soundcard apps. MSSTV
and MMTTY also work in Wine. I'm using Mandriva 2008.1 here. Have used
Mandriva releases for a long time now, but am skipping 2009.0 until the
2009.1 release of a newer KDE 4 version.
Current Wine version is 1.11, so not sure if that is the package you are
using. In general, with Mandriva and alsa/portaudio/pulseaudio, I have
found the best performance setting in Wine is to use the emulated OSS
audio interface. Just make sure to have the alsa-oss emulation package
installed and you are all set. For some reason the sample rate
conversion routines seem to work better on the machines I have tested
this on. But try them all and see what works the best for you particular
machine.
Operation has been pretty simple under Wine.
WSJT and WSPR are buildable natively in Linux, and I see some of the
lowfer folks have been using these apps also of late.
