[Lowfer] LF Lop Antennas [AKA Loop Antennas]

For what it's worth..... I found the more wire you can use in the loop the
better the S/N ratio. With my loop tuned using min capacity I can receive
LoranC on my Tektronix without a receiver, just a preamp. If I cut the
number of turns and andd capacitance, the S/N drops , mostly because of the
decreased signal.

I get a 1MV signal on my scope directly connected to the loop prteamp at 100
KHZ.

I stopped worrying about Q. I don't ignore it bt I keep it in perspective.

I remember some early experiments with Ken Cornell "K" in Westfield NJ. I
was using a 365 uuf varriable and a 2.5 Mhy RF choke for my ant tuner and
got consistently better reports than Ken with his basket weave coils. As I
remember, we were both using 2E26s in the final ..... sort of 1 watt.

Pete WA2EIN ( "P" on 189.5 back in late 60s early 70s, before Ken moven
to Pt. Pleasant)
