Hello Jay,

Welcome back.

For the PC:
take a look at ARGO found at www.weaksignals.com
Spectrum Laboratory is also a powerful tool, do a google search for the
download site.
Most of my collection is unattended, overnight, with a review in the
morning, on the PC.

There are always non directional beacons, NDB, to listen for.

You may have to work on infrastructure first. While some of the software
processing gains are tremendous,
you have got to be accurate and stable with frequency, like better than
1 Hz.

What is your most accurate signal source for testing ?
Do you have a GPS disciplined reference oscillator ?

Not knowing your equipment set up, Ebay could be your friend.
HP-3336A/B/C as a synthesized signal source, can use a 10 MHz external
reference.
HP-3586B/C as a basic HF receiver, can alos use an exrernal reference.
Trimble Thunderbolt GPS/DO as a 10 MHz reference.

What equipment are you using ?
