[Lowfer] Help with loop please

Bob,

I am using the AMRAD E-Field probe here in Mechanicsburg, PA. It is a
very sensitive antenna. I have it mounted atop about 25 feet of masting in
the back of my property about 60 feet from the house. It is superb from
about 10 KHz all the way up through 1.8 MHz. Actually, it even works well on
the 80 meter band. I've copied just about all the Lowfer stations within
1000 miles of me. I also have a large multiturn, rotatable loop that I built
several years ago. Here is a link to it:

This project was published in the Sept 2002 issue of QST.
The AMRAD E-Field probe seems to outperform this loop by quite a margin
however.

The most critical aspect of the AMRAD antenna for me is to ensure that
it's grounded. The ground doesn't have to be extreme, I use a 4 foot ground
rod right below where the antenna is mounted. If you try out this antenna
without the ground, it's very noisy ... with the ground ... WOW!

Trevor,

I emailed them to find out the price and customs fees. I haven't had this
much fun in radio since I was a kid, getting burned by Weller soldering
irons (yeah, the BIG ONES) and testing old tubes to see which ones still had
some life in them !!!!!

Thanks guys, you made my 65 year old heart race with excitement today.

Bob

Bob,
Depending on how much you wish to spend etc, this loop from Wellbrook might
be of interest
