I had a feeling it may be this sort of animal at 500 John, thanks.

Laurence,
> What sort of loop current you seeing John?
This loop is a very different animal up at 505 kHz, where it is just
about a quarter wavelength long. The impedance at the point I'm feeding
it is 62 +j1110 ohms, and I had expected something considerably lower.
The antenna is not symmetrical around that feedpoint, and that may be
part of the issue. The ground here is very dry at this point, as we
haven't had any significant rain in weeks.
As to current, the jury is still out. My wire-through-the-toroid meter
is not working very well at this frequency, probably due to stray
coupling. As I've kept adding gadgets to the tuning network box, the
wiring has gotten a bit odd. Anyway, I'll throw an accurately calibrated
thermocouple meter in there in another week or so. Field readings will
have to wait a while, but I'm in no danger of goosing 200 watts ERP!
