Hello Peter, Lowfers,
>Hmm, so JB, is everything else the same as per your conifer-tree change?
Yes, no changes made since adding the conifer root ground.
>Okay let's review, a 1,200 ft long wire tied to a existing fence row, the
>ground too rocky for radials, so the tree tap instead, and unterminated
>far end...and it works. Fine.
The ground isn't too rocky for radials, it's just that I can't install
radials
other than in line with the antenna. The rocks do make driving ground
rods difficult at best, so I've only got 3 rods, 3 ft. long, hence the tree
root "ground" experiment.
>Just wondering: can you make comparisons to the delta, former ant?
>Can you change the ground connection to, like was suggested, several
>surface wires at right angle to the fence row to effect a capacity ground
>(compared to the tree)?
Switching from Beverage to delta takes about 2 seconds to do but I
have yet to try an A-B comparison while actually receiving a signal.
I can't go at right angles to the antenna with radials, as to the east it's
not my property (plus there's cows in there) and to the west my shop
is in the way. One option I do have which I may try is to run a lead
from the Beverage ground rods into my shop and connect it to the
10 ft. rod driven thru the floor into the clay below. That rod is the
one I use for RF ground on my 3 KVA Tesla coil.
>Lastly, how does this wire do with local noise, any?
I don't see a lot of difference noise-wise between the Beverage and
the delta loop on 500 kHz. When listening to Gander Volmet on 10
mHz. the other night, the Beverage was much quieter than my mini-
whip, despite the signal strength being lower on the Beverage.
