Ed,

many of Dell's computer models are still (or should I say again) 
available with XP preinstalled, at least on their swedish web page.
Dell seem to have realized that *many* customers refuse to buy Vista...

    Dell USA seems to have quit offering that as an option in the past 
couple of months - they did before that.  vI tried calling Dell customer 
service and asking if XP could still be had as an option but never got a 
straight answer.  I guess they make more profit from Vista and are 
selling it very hard.  HP offers a very nice machine with XP [dc7700] 
and two serial ports [I use them a lot], something I don't seem to find 
on Dell.  I use one of these machines at work and quite satisfied with 
it so that's what I intend to buy and worried about something with the 
mother board which screws up the sound card use, hence the original 
question.
