I posed this on the antennas list last year with only one response that
unfortunately did not help with my problem. I figured I would ask on a weak
signal group!
Problem. Lighting and static. I have had as much as 130,000 volts
generated on as little as 11' of wire. There is also the occasional massive
lightning strike on the property.
Considertation. Lightning strike towers, 25' high across the back of the
property. These should help drain the opposing charge and give any rare
strike a good potential away from my shack.
Questions. Will the constant discharge cause noise in my receivers??? I am
planning a half dozen towers or more so the discharge will be distributed
and therefore lower voltages at each tower but will they cause too much RF
noise? What about hundreds of stainless steel spikes on each tower as well
as the main strike spike? This should lower the voltage of each discharge
point to only a hundred volts or so with near immeasurable current. Will
this eleviate any possible noise problems or are the half dozen main spikes
enough?
Do any of you have any experience with lighting rods, noise from ESD etc.??
Any iput greatly appreciated!!!!
