Hi, Larry,
> Guess I had better get started on the QSL cards!
Hope you do better than I did -- which won't be hard :D
But regarding your antenna -- what I know about propagation would fit on
the head of a pin, so all I'm speaking of here is practical experience:
Before I got the permanent antenna up for my HiFER it ran on a 17'+ (I cut
it to whatever the formula said for 13555) 4 AWG solid copper wire
hanging from the eve of my house. Only about 18" of
it extended above the eve, and the rest dropped down to the ground where
my oscillator was on a protoboard. The antenna was surrounded -- my house
a foot or so away on the west, chain link fence 4' to the south and
another run of chain link 5' to the east, large bushes to the south and
east, another house just a few feet to the east, and their large trees
(which I'm expecting to disappear when they move out). Oh yes, and a huge
steel smoker only a few feet to the north.
Yet Lyle was able to copy it in MN -- over 700 miles. But then, with his
setup, and especially his quiet location, I think he can copy the rf
produced when a bug scrapes its wings together anywhere between his house
and Yellowknife!
Good job, Larry. Fun, huh?
