[Lowfer] Do you Yahoo!?

Hi all,

I'll try to present an unbiased evaluation...

The posts in this thread discuss two major issues --
support and functionality.

It is clear that, if the present lowfer list suddenly stopped
working altogether, Al Waller would ensure that it got
fixed quickly. If we were on Yahoo!, perhaps we would be out
of luck. If so, then we obviously should not move. I've
no experience with their support, having never managed a Yahoo!
group. I'd like to hear from those who have, especially if
they needed support for major problems. IMO, lack of support
for minor troubles is also found at qth.net . This is not a
complaint; the volunteers are simply too busy dealing with
what's important.

Regarding functionality, the complaints posted here have been
about features that *don't exist at all* at qth.net . For
example, if Lyle posted to his group by sending an email,
he would not be asked for user name or password. If he received
posts via email, there would be no full-page ads. And, if the
members posted plain text, the ads would be merely four lines
of text at the bottom. And these days, many group posts arrive
with no ad at all.

On the other hand, a frustrating feature, such as Yahoo's web access
to archived and current posts, is much better than nothing. You can
browse messages in a group in which you have only passing interest,
retrieve a message that you accidentally deleted from your system,
access posts when your subscribed email address is not working,
or temporarily suspend receiving mail (e.g. when on vacation), and
still be able to read the interesting messages.

73,
