One problem with spyware catcher programs is that some of them advertised to
catch spyware ARE actually spyware, so be selective.  There's a phony
AdAware out there, for instance.  If you try AdAware, be sure you download
the genuine article from Lavasoft directly, and I'm told there is a late
update for it dated January 26 that you should also obtain.

I solve the problem differently.  I don't allow my e-mail client to run
scripts, and I don't open file attachments directly from e-mail.  Ever!

If there's an attached file from someone I don't know, I trash it
automatically.  If it appears to be a file from someone I do know, I first
get confirmation first that they intentionally sent me one.  Then I save it
to disk and scan it before opening.

Result after 12 years of running Windows:  virus infections=0, worms or
trojans=0, spyware=0.

Paranoia...it's not just for loonies any more.
