Peter... A few more details,
The loop is wound with litz wire but the first version, was wound with
magnet wire to get an approximate length needed to resonate.
I hate to waste Litz wire.
It is a single wrap that fills approx. 80% of the core. There is a tunable
mica that allows about 100 KHz to 200 KHz tuning. This fits in the ""T"
in the middle of the PVC. This allows convenient mounting.
Yes... A preamp is indeed needed since the area of the antenna is so small.
I used a balanced preamp made with MPF-102's and a 2n3904? to drive the
coax.
Seems to work ok. Should measure the "Q" one day.
Really its was just something to mess around with, not really a serious
effort.
