How is to use, I mean is there any variation when placed over the small
tx current wire, center to side locations?

And where in your setup is the pickup made, at the 50 Ohm feed point,
the loading coil return?

Does the reading seem consistent when trying it without other changes?

That is in fact the very meter I built.  Found the split cores at RS,
the 
cat # listed in the article.
