Sure it would work. I would think some other dielectric would provide a
wider variance in capacitance than glass. Maybe try Teflon or Delrin?

Someone mentioned this and I cant validate it but the idea
sounds good. For a low loss Vari cap the suggestion was to make
fixed plates , These can be welded, silver soldered to a common
mount so the current and IR loss would be good. Then to vari the cap
change the dielectric by sliding glass between the plates . You would
have
a varicap by varying the dielectric. It would go from air to glass


would it work  ??  dont know never tried the idea
