I've built it - works great.  I chose a 4 MHz xtal so that to tune 185 kHz 
I just tuned my receiver to 4.185 MHz.  According to the article, the 
lower frequency crystal you can use, the better, so if you could tune 2 
MHz you'd probably want to choose a 2 MHz crystal.  It doesn't need to be 
an "even" frequency like 2 or 4 MHz, but it makes the mental math easier 
when you are tuning around.
