The University of Illinois announces break-through development on a
509Gig transistor.
Here's a one-pager on it,

They use a term, "epitaxial structure," that's unknown to me. Others?
It's used in a context of their special "bridge" contact element. Hmm?

History: In 1947 the first transistor was demonstrated at Bell Labs by
John Bardeen and Walter Brattain and directed by Wm. Shockley. Bardeen
left Bell and joined the U of I in 1951 where he later worked on
superconductivity. He received the Nobel prize twice for these efforts.
