Greetings,
I am new to the list and new to LW. I have been reading Radioscience
Observing Vols 1 and 2, and am very excited about long wave in general,
and hope to have a beacon set up on my (weekend) farm in Shell Lake, WI
before the end of the year. I see that I have a neighbor in Shell Lake
who is quite active in LW, and I'll have to look him up soon.
For now, I am listening and learning with my Radio Shack DX-398 (AKA
Sangean ATS-909) and have set up a long wire antenna in my back yard in
St. Paul.
I realize my current receive is a little ineffective for beacon/utility
use. I am seeing posts here of frequencies like 169.130 etc.-way more
precise than my little Radio Shack portable can get. I have been reading
about the TenTac Rx-320 and find the price/performance and computer
control compelling, bug I have heard that LW sensitivity is poor. Any
experienced voices out there? What would you recommend for LW work?
Thanks for your input,
Steve
PS Just bough the Ham University software and am On My Way with Morse
code. I also have ordered the ARRL Technician Class study materials.
Can't wait!!!
