Hi Bow,
The IC-718 should work FB. Most of us are using ham transceivers for
receive. Any long wire antenna (50' or more suggested and the higher the
better) or large loop antenna (100' of wire or more suggested)will work on
receive. Of course you can build amplified loops and so on. Do some
searches for Lowfer web sites and you'll find all sorts of info is out
there. The LWCA (Low Wave Club of America) is a good place to start.
