[Lowfer] HP3586C as TX

Dale, Mike

For receive only applications pulling the cable between the tracking
generator and the rear panel, plus terminating the output of the module with
a 50 ohm shielded termination reduces the residual signal to a point well
below the receiver noise floor.

As far as a beacon exciter...I've been using one for lowfer VD for almost
two years now. In my installation I come out of the HP at 0 dBm, attenuate 3
dB, through a K1EL keyed high isolation Analog Devices video switch, amplify
20 dB (available amplifier) and feed a modified Andrews & Ashlock final out
at the loop. GPS disciplined 10 MHz is fed to the reference input.

Also used a 3586C for hifer VD that was on for about a week this summer.
Setup was similar - better high frequency switch and no final amplifier.
Worked well, also. I should probably fire that back up if hifer-ing is going
to become a year round sport!

Jay
