[Lowfer] Question on Jackson Harbor vs ???

QUESTIONS:

SIMPLE ANTENNA - I still have not had time to try the converter or even
power it up! Sadly, it's just sitting there looking pretty. Maybe this
weekend... What is the simplest antenna to use for just trying the converter
out? I'm thinking of trying a simple broadband e-probe type vertical since
that would be the quickest to get together. I have some of the stuff for a
loop, but that's going to take awhile to finish-up.

LOW-COST RECEIVER/CONVERTER - A few people have expressed concern about the
freq stability of the converter. I was aware of that before I built the kit,
but went ahead anyway due to the price-value of the kit. I figured even if I
just used it for general listening down there, it was well worth the price.
However this leads me to a question then: What would you guys recommend for
QRS beacon receiving? Honestly I cannot afford a brand new Icom, so it's got
to be something I can build or buy inexpensively. Ideas?
