Hey John, Jay, and Eric,
Thanks for the quick reply. Yep, I have one of those K1EL K-ID keyer
chips....somewhere. I'll look for it. In the meantime my parallel port
adventure continues. And I am CONFUSED!
First, I tested my laptop with a printer using the parallel interface.
The printer worked FB so I assume the 25 pin parallel (LPT) port is good.
Oh, maybe the printer uses LPT connections that the QRSS interface
doesn't???? And maybe those interface connections go to both the serial
interface and the parallel interface??????? And maybe when I blew the
serial port interface connections, it blew the connections needed for the
parallel port????? Anybody follow me- and know?
My old QRSS version 3.17 (now how did I manage to download v 2.05 from
LWCA this morning?) shows a parallel port connection as follows-
DB0 is pin 2, DB1 is pin 3, and GRND is pin 18. What the heck are DB0 and
DB1? The QRSS v.3.17 schematic only shows the COM PORT with RTS or DTR
even though it refers to DB0 and DB1 on the parallel port. Is Are DB0 and
DB1 the equivalents of RTS and DTR on the parallel port?????
If they are, and it's working, I should see a voltage between each of them
and ground when QRSS is keying. My old deaf ears hear the keying (I have
the sidetone on), but I am getting NO VOLTAGES between parallel port pin 2
or 3 and ground. To make me more confused, my Writelog and TRlog etc.
show completely different parallel port pins for keying a transmiyyer,
namely #1, strobe, #17 CW output, and old reliable #18 ground for keying.
Whats it all about Alfie?
