I'm noticing that, as it [the code skill] comes, there
is less thinking, less listening, and more just hearing -- like speech,

you don't think about it.

Agree, Eric and others. When learning code or building speed, a good
tip and goal to reach is listening for text characters first, moving to
words next. Though some never get there and can apparently copy code at
moderate speeds even, it's like counting steps while partner dancing or
- worse - watching one's feet. Yes the activity gets done but at obvious
duress for the participants and chagrin to observers. Heh heh, sorta
been there too.

I remember hearing about an OM when I was one of many novice kids in
the neighborhood, who would "copy" a QSO mentally, setting there with
folded arms, likely had a big smirk too. This was awesome to us
pencil-n-paper, J-30-key novices, bragging when we first we copied W1AW
at 10wpm.

Oh well, the 6AG7-807 HB rig or AT1 filled the 80 mtr bands then. I was
different though, used twenty-five cent surplus 1625s (still only
75wts).
