I have one and don't see hear any spurs from 180 to 200 kHz, as far as
I've looked. I do have trouble with bad intermod poducts from several
very close AM stations and find they go away when I use 6 dB of
attenuation. A simple low-pass filter would take care of those
troubles. Bottom line is that I think it's probably quite suitable for
even though I don't use it there and haven't tried it in QRSS. Right
now I'm listening to PLI (only 20 miles from here) on 183.5 and he is
booming through. Of course, he should!
The only complaint I have is that the BFO pitch adjustment is in rather
coarse steps.
By far the most sensitive VLF receiver I have here is a BC-453
converted to fund from 160 to 260 kHz. Stability isn't good enough for
QRSS but using the Q multiplier and audio filter it pulls in more
beacons than any "modern" receiver I have. Only problem around here is
that the group of about a dozen VLF beacons that were on the air ten
years ago the only ones left are PLI and mine (IZJ). The latter isn't
on regularly now because it screws up the WWV clock I have sitting right
beside it!
