Tom,
I can highly recommend the Icom R75 from my experience. Some of the others
on the list have them also, and can offer their comments.
1. As is, the frequency stability is probably good enough, especially if you
leave the receiver running 24/7. The "high stability" option will improve it
somewhat, and also will insure fast warm-ups if you turn the radio off.
2. You'll want the 500 Hz 1st IF filter as a minimum. I also have a 250 Hz
2nd IF filter, and keep both engaged for most Lowfer work.
3. The DSP option will probably be a freebie, but it's not going to help the
Lowfer stuff.
4. The receiver works nicely from a 12 volt battery. I use a cordless drill
battery, and it'll run for hours.
5. Sensitivity is more than adequate. Most receiving loop users will have
external preamps, in any case. The R75 has two internal preamps that can be
switched in. The first one is OK, but the second can be easily overloaded by
AM broacast signals.
The receiver is a bargain for what it does. I've got an Icom IC746PRO, and
prefer the R75 for LF receiving.
