One of the problems with this approach is the reduction of the
'effective' height of the antenna due to the drooping top hat radials. This
is because the vertical component of the current in the top hat is in the
reverse direction of the current in the vertical mast and tends to cancel
some of it. If you can guy the mast at a large angle to the the vetical (in
other words reduce the doop of the wires) it will help.

Ahhhh, I long for the good old days of vertical antenna mounting. I'll make
no comment on how much simpler the loop antenna is. <G>
