Very interesting. You're saying that raising the loop from 4' to 12' has a 
noticeable effect? This is contrary to the theory that a good many of us 
subscribe too.... that the H-field should not vary with height above the 
ground). I will concede some signal improvement due to improved Q, however, 
(Similar to a TX loop's spacing from the ground). I've also experienced a 
signal-to-noise inprovement with height in my woods  because of some buried 
wires near the RX loop.

Can you determine if this 'improvement' is in S/N or signal strength? (or 
both?).

PS: Of course the gain you see could be the result of that character on the 
other end of the signal playing tricks on you. :)
