Thanks gang: Denis, Mike, Costas. Thanks for sharing Your intimate
knowledge of Power Generation with this group. You have provided field
level understanding, likely replacing speculation held by others here
and namely me. It's also surprising how lucid your explanations were for
me with nothing more that a lifelong ham radio back ground. Those terms
"black start" and "dark start" are lucid and were instantly
understandable. But if anything, I'll try not to forget that the
generators rotate at 3600 rpm and output of 14-15 KV and have fields
excited by 375V DC. :-}

Costas addressed the subject of frequency control implying that the
power grid maintained control of individual power generator site
frequency to the industry standard, as if by system inertia. While this
seems plausible at some small degree, there likely is some total
controlling factor--well maybe--as also Alberto suggests. I'll try to
research this further and report any findings.
